Can you make a quote with ChatGPT?
For the text, yes: a covering email, a summary or a clean structure is quick to write with ChatGPT. For the prices it is risky. ChatGPT only knows your current price lists and customer agreements if you make them available through a connected app, and then only within that account's permissions. On top of that, OpenAI itself describes hallucinations, plausible but false statements, as an ongoing issue, and its terms of use say you should not rely on output as a sole source of truth. For a quote with an amount on it, that means: always check the figures yourself.
What does quoting software such as Offorte do?
Offorte, from Breda, is an online quoting tool for professionals and service providers. You work with templates, reusable content, interactive price tables and a product library. AI helps with writing texts, and external AI agents can create quotes through an API. Strong when your quotes consist mainly of fixed parts. Offorte does not mention an ERP integration, so prices and stock from your own systems do not flow in automatically.
When do you need a CPQ package?
CPQ stands for configure, price, quote: software for companies that sell configurable products. Tacton targets manufacturers of complex products such as machinery and works with constraint rules, and since May 2026 has had an AI assistant that builds product models from PDFs, spreadsheets and CAD files. Elfsquad, from Drachten, is a product configurator for manufacturers, with no per-user fees and integrations with systems including Business Central, Exact Online and Ridder iQ. ERP packages for manufacturing, such as Ridder iQ, calculate quotes from the costing. Tacton, Elfsquad and Ridder iQ do not publish prices. For a wholesaler selling existing items, a configurator is often more than you need.
What is an AI quote agent, such as Quote?
Quote by Bonsai is a sales agent that reads the request, even as free text or an attachment, knows your catalogue, prices, margins and terms, and drafts the complete quote itself in your own house style. You check it, refine it and send it. The quote calculates with your price lists and margins, not with a general assumption. You pay per drafted quote, from 90 cents, and a connection to your catalogue and house style is usually live within a few weeks. The difference with quoting software: the agent pulls the content from your data itself. The difference with CPQ: it is built for a large catalogue with volume tiers and customer prices, not for configuring one complex product.
Which choice fits a wholesaler?
If you send few quotes with mostly fixed texts, quoting software is the cheapest route. If you sell machines or installations assembled per customer, look at CPQ. If many requests arrive by email for items from a large catalogue, with volume tiers, customer prices and changing lead times, the work sits in looking things up and recalculating, and that is what a quote agent is built for. ChatGPT is useful for the text in every case, but not as the source of your prices.
